I Spent Years Building My Career in Tech, Now I Spend My Time Exploring the World

I’m Michael, 56 years old, and I’ve spent most of my life working in technology.

I started early, stayed consistent, and over time built something that gave me stability and freedom. It wasn’t fast, and it wasn’t easy in the beginning, but I stayed focused. Today, I don’t need to work the way I used to, which allows me to manage my time differently.

I was married for a long time. After my wife passed away, I had to adjust to a different kind of routine. It took time, but I eventually found a rhythm that works for me.

These days, I’m still connected to my work, but in a lighter way. I check in, make decisions when needed, but I’m not tied to a fixed schedule anymore.

With that change, I started spending more time on things I actually enjoy.

Cooking became part of my daily routine. I like trying recipes from different countries, especially dishes I’ve experienced during my travels. It’s not anything complicated, just something I do regularly and enjoy.

Travel has become the main way I spend my time outside of work. I don’t travel just to visit places quickly. I prefer staying long enough to understand the environment, the people, and especially the food.

Some trips are planned in detail, others I keep flexible. Depending on the distance or schedule, I sometimes charter a private jet. It’s not something I do every time, but it helps when I want to avoid delays and move on my own schedule.

One place that stood out to me was the Philippines. I didn’t expect much before going, but it turned into one of the more memorable trips I’ve had.

I spent time in smaller areas, away from the main tourist spots. The lifestyle is slower, and people are more open in everyday interactions. At one point, I ended up joining a group for dinner near the coast. It wasn’t something organized, just a spontaneous invitation.

We sat outside, simple setup, fresh seafood, local dishes I hadn’t tried before. It was one of those moments where nothing is planned, but everything feels right.

Experiences like that are what keep me traveling.

Right now, my life is balanced between work, home, and moving between places. I have time, flexibility, and a routine that I control.

I’m comfortable with how things are.

But I do think it would be good to share this with someone.

I’m not looking for anything complicated. Just a mature woman, someone who enjoys traveling, discovering new cultures, trying different foods, and is comfortable with a lifestyle that isn’t tied to one place.

I don’t use apps or anything like that. I prefer meeting someone naturally, through shared environments or interests.

For now, I keep things simple. I work when needed, cook most of my meals, and plan my next trip when it feels right.

If I meet someone along the way who fits into that, then that’s something I’d be open to.
